Hydraulic Rock Breakers

Hydraulic Rock Breakers

You may have heard of rock breakers referred to as hydraulic breakers or a hydraulic hammer. It can be quite confusing with so many different names but rest assured they are all referring to a mounted breaking attachment and different regions refer to them by different names. We have a long history exporting to the USA, Africa, Iceland, Jamaica etc and each nation have their own names in which they refer to their breakers.

With that out of the way – let’s get down to business….

What is a rock breaker and how does it work?

Our Rock Breakers are designed for quick and easy removal of rock or concrete with continuous oscillation for powerful efficiency. When nothing else can do the job, turn to our range of industrial grade hydraulic rock breakers. They’re as powerful as they are reliable.

For a demolition crew, the rock breaker is a tool used for jobs too large for jackhammering or areas where blasting is not possible due to safety or environmental issues. It’s powered by a hydraulic system that is activated with a foot-operated valve.

Rock breakers are often used in construction and landscaping. Rock breakers can be either stationary or mobile, but are typically employed as a mobile tool because of their flexibility.

How do you use a hydraulic rock breaker?

Like with all hydraulic attachment tools, you attach it to an excavator or mini-digger then operate it, pointing and placing it where you want to break the rock. The principle of the rock breaker is to apply constant pressure on a small piston in order to gain mechanical advantage when the force passes through pipes on a bigger area.

We sell several variations of rock breakers. They all have a strong and steel made construction, but the differences among them are in weight, size and usage. Everyone of our hydraulic breakers are designed to be used for a specific application. The weight of the head determines the balance and the efficiency of the whole rock breaker. Logically, the heavier the head, the quicker and more efficient the breaking procedure.

Other uses and reasons why rock breakers are so popular

There are many reasons why rock breaker attachments are so popular across lots of industries – some of which are outlined below:

  • Hydraulic breakers are used in all types of major projects. From construction sites to road building to home construction, they are the efficient way to take on tough jobs.

  • One machine can effectively do the work of an entire workforce without getting tired or affected by weather or the need to take a break
  • Much more efficient
  • Can be used for countless applications
  • The ability to replace their parts and repair parts
  • Hydraulic breakers vastly reduce the need for manual labour

Rock Breaker - A brief history

Hydraulic Rock breakers are the oldest hydraulic attachments for excavators and diggers. The first serial manufactured rock breaker was the Krupp HM 400 in 1967 whilst the patent was secured in 1963.

The most important thing is to have a reliable and powerful breaker. That’s why we have a wide range of rock breakers built to handle anything from small jobs to large jobs. Made for the needs of the construction industry, our hydraulic hammer range offer all the features you need for success and an operating weight of up to 90 tonnes.

What you get with our light hydraulic breaker

Slim, compact and simple to handle, the hydraulic breakers from RAW Plant are versatile. You can use them with excavators, backhoe loaders, skid steer loaders and demolition robots. They’re reliable and get the job done.

How do I choose a rock breaker?

Check out the 4 best practices we always recommend to prospective clients when they’re looking to purchase a new hydraulic breaker.

Match the breaker to the project. Don’t just attach a big breaker on your excavator to break large boulders. Match the size of the breaker with the size of the rock for optimum performance. To ensure efficiency, make sure to match the breaker to your rock needs. Do not break rocks into pieces smaller than needed, because this will cause excessive wear on the breaker and prevent it from performing as efficiently as possible.

One Size Doesn’t Fit All, so choose the right breaker for the job. To make your job easier, your tools should be matched up to the type of work you’re doing. The wrong tool can actually add time to your job. Be sure to choose the right type of breaker for the job. For example, contrary to popular misunderstanding, the blunt tool tends to be particularly good for most oversized reinforced concrete breaking, as it provides better positioning and transmission of the shockwave.

Avoid blank firing. Although hydraulic breakers are more durable than other construction equipment, blank firing is the most damaging action. Our hydraulic breakers have a base that contains a cushion to protect the unit.

Durable protective housing is a must! A Hydraulic breaker design in which the breaker is covered by a protective housing extends the life of the breaker attachment. The housing protects it from damage, reduces noise, and prevents dust and debris from entering, thus preserving its performance. This also decreases vibration for even more comfort.
